Bruce Jackson is an American academic who back in the early 70s went to study and write about Arkansas's prison life but soon realized that his true interest was capturing visual rather than written stories.
Many of these images were taken at Cummins prison from 1972 until 1975. If I'm correct, the last three pictures are prisoners in the deathrow which were taken in 1979. As usual, my main interest is the prison tattoos, the art and story behing them. Although I know I'll never know, I'm always curious about who these marked people were. What they did before prison? What they enjoyed doing or what they did not?...and why the tattoos, if there's any purpose at all.
